  1. Sparkle 2.2.3 A mac-look-and-feel MPEG and QT player and converter.

  3. This should replace Sparkle 2.2.2 in the info-mac archives.
  4. Changes are:
  5. * Some very minor cosmetic bugs fixed.
  6. * Some speed tweaks.
  7. * Worked around a bug in NCSA Mosaic, so should work better with Mosaic.
  8. * The MPEGSplit program now saves files in the folder you choose---
  9.   it used to save them in the parent of that folder.

  11. Also in this package are a VERY rough quick and dirty port of some unix 
  12. MPEG-2 decoding code. This will allow you to see what's in an MPEG2 file 
  13. and save the result as a QT movie. Of course at some point this support 
  14. will be rolled into Sparkle but I'd like to do sound first.
  15. Be patient with this programs---in particular when it starts up, it 
  16. may sit for a minute or so looking like it's frozen before anything 
  17. starts happening. This program is based on code by Chad Fogg and the 
  18. MPEG Software Simulation Group.

  20. Also in this package is a VERY rough quicka and dirty port of a 
  21. unix MPEG demuxer. This will split a muxed MPEG file (one containing 
  22. both audio and video) into separate audio and video files. This program
  23. is based on code by Rainer Menes.

  25. This version of Sparkle
  26. * has very limited AppleScript support. Probably not yet useful, but 
  27.   that'll change soon.
  28. * does not support sound
  29. * does not support online help
  30. These are all high priorities, pretty much in that order.

  32. Thanks to the people who reported bugs in 2.2.0.

  34. As always, if you find any bug or anomaly in this code please tell me. 
  35. The sooner you tell me, the sooner I'll fix it.
  36. As always there remain a few rough edges to this program, though I hope 
  37. most of them won't be too distressing to users. Like previous rough 
  38. edges, they'll be done away with in time.

  51. WHAT IS IT?
  52. Sparkle plays MPEGs, PICTs and QT movies and converts between them. It is
  53. multifinder friendly and, with enough memory, will open multiple 
  54. documents at once.
  55. It is free.

  58. System 7 or greater.
  59. QuickTime 1.6 or greater.
  60. An 020 based mac or greater.
  61. This version requires the Thread Manager.
  62. This program on PowerMac requires ObjectSupportLib. Read the enclosed
  63.   file if you don't have it to learn how to get it.
